Once again we've had a wonderful stay at
the Marilena 1.
It is now one of the very few villas
that is on its own. The peace and calm of its position makes you
feel that you've been there longer and come home feeling totally
chilled out.
All the restaurants in the area now
offer a menu including kids meals and they are all of a good
standard but I would definitely recommend Finekas in Polis as the
food is excellent and the staff very friendly and effecient. This
was our 3rd time with Zacharius and Andreos and it gets better every
time.

The heated pool was a real bonus and worth the extra money as it averaged 30degC during our stay. Villa is one of the best we have stayed in. We normally spend the whole holiday just outside Ayia Napa but thought this year we would have a "chill out" ten days in Ayia Marina and then ten days "doing the usual". Our time spent in Ayia Marina/Polis and Latchi was wonderful, so different and we really felt as if we were living amongst the Cypriots. The apartment at Astrofegia was superb and totally equipped with everything we could possibly need and lots more. Zacharias and Demetra are very welcoming and friendly people, anything we needed or any information on anything we only had to ask. Zacharias recommended Mylos to us, a wonderful restaurant in the mountains - it was great and Andreas and his wife were so friendly - we felt as if we had known them years by the time we left. The area is very beautiful - it was a pleasure to look out every morning and see mountains - not hotels!!! Polis and Latchi are real "old Cyprus" places, with superb restaurants. A mention too must go to Demetris, who lived next door and just happened to be a taxi driver! He is one of the most helpful people we have come across -not only did he become our permanent taxi driver for the entire ten days, but also picked up a missing suitcase for us from Paphos Airport, saving us a lot of hassle. If Zacharias, Demetra and Demetris are anything to go by, the people of that area are THE BEST. The villa is beautiful, classy and spacious as well as being fully equipped, modern and clean. Zacharias made us feel very welcome and communication whilst booking the holiday was first class and I was even able to book our hire car through Zacharias which represented excellent value! The pool is the size of a hotel pool (huge) with jacuzzi and is heated with solar panels which made midnight swimming a real treat. The views are out of this world and we also found a perfect breeze at the location despite temperatures of 35 degrees centigrade plus, perfect for sunbathing! The villa is also toddler friendly and railings with gates are tastefully placed around the pool area so you can relax in the knowledge that your non swimming children will not be able to get into the pool area unsupervised. The villa is well equipped with washing machine, dishwasher etc, it really is a home from home. This villa gets a 5 star plus rating (with 5 star being the top rating) from me and my family and we would all like to thank Zacharias very much indeed for making our holiday a most memorable one. We also reccommend Mylos Restaurant and Lisa's Place for eating out, both owners were very friendly and the food excellent and plentiful. I look forward to returning next year to the Astrofegia Beach Villa and I shall also be trying the villa in Paphos near Coral Bay sometime in the future. The pool was huge and very safe for families. The jacuzzi was an added bonus and was used every day/night. The villa itself was well furnished with everything that you could ask for. A big thank you for the dvd player, the children loved watching movies while waiting for their food to be cooked on the bbq. We used the bbq several times and it was great watching the sun set from the patio while we dined. Zac and Andreas were very helpful and made sure that our holiday ran smoothly. Two great guys. Another big thank you to them for the meal at Mylos Restaurant. We had a great evening and the food was superb, plenty for all 10 of us to eat. We returned to see the restaurant during the day and it has fantastic views. The road that it is on leads you through the mountains. We found a small pond with loads of frogs hopping about which became a big hit with the children...and the adults. Ayia Marina is a tiny village just a short drive from Polis. You really feel like you are one of the locals. We visited the beaches at Pomos and at the picnic site along the road at Argaka. Beautiful, deserted beaches, some rocky for snorkeling and some sandy for the children. The go-karts just outside of Polis were also a favourite. A nice restaurant to try was Lisa's Place. Lovely food served by very friendly people. Polis square also has some good restaurants and Latchi has a lovely harbour area. Paphos is not too far away if you want to do some serious shopping and see some of the sights. All in all it was a fantastic holiday, the weather was perfect, the location was quiet and unspoilt and the villa was beautiful. What more could you ask for? We will be back................ You have complete tranquility and privacy but have the choice of the warm company of the locals in Argaka just a few minutes away. The villa is amazing inside and out. The pictures on the website cannot capture the feel of the place. It has everything that you need. It is polished, spacious and comfortable. The villa is surrounded by lemon and lime trees and the sunsets are better in person. The beaches nearby are quiet and even in July had only maybe 10 locals on them at any time. There is a great local resturant near the villa called Liza's place with wonderful food and hospitality. I would definately recomend it and will be visiting it again in the future. There is a great deal of peace and privacy however you are still within easy access of fine restaurants and the shops in Polis. There are local supermarkets and a butcher etc. to save any journey. This was one of my better ideas. The pool is much bigger than it appears on the website. I have rarely come across a pool of this size in a good hotel let alone having one to ourselves. My 2 children, my husband and myself enjoyed long hours in it, swimming, playing and watching beautiful sunsets. All from our own piece of heaven. Once again Zacharius and Andreos made us very welcome. We were provided with lots of fresh fruit on a regular basis, so much so, that we were tempted to open a fruit stall in Polis. The villa is large, open, very good for the disabled and beautifully furnished. From the lounge you can see straight across to the Akamas peninsula. We did'nt use the barbecue as its so cheap to eat out. We ate several times at Lisa's place and the food is just as good as last year. Zacharius suggested we try The Akamas Village Tavern. You approach this as you enter Argaka from Polis, its on the left hand side. When we first saw it, we decided to drive straight past. Don't. It may not be in the best location with cars passing a few feet away, but the food is exceptional. You will not have a meze like this anywhere else. Don't bother with the Mylos restaurant. The food is boring unless you are a rabbit. On the meze there was 1 piece of carrot, 1 pce.green pepper,1 thin slice of courgette, very little meat-need I go on. There is only 1 problem with staying at Zacharius and Andreos' villas and that is that it spoils you so much you don't want to holiday anywhere else. Before our stay we were naturally a little worried that our accomodation would not live up to that described on the website, but our worries were unfounded as the apartment was everything that it was described as, very clean and well equipped. The taxi that was arranged for us by Zacharias was waiting at Paphos airport, the drive to Agia Marina took about 40 minutes, a welcome bottle of lovely Cyprus wine went down very well on our arrival. As we had no car hire arranged until the next day we walked out to the nearest taverna ( Yuillas fish tavern ) turn left outside the apartment and it is about half a mile away, the lady who owns it was not open for food but she took pity on us and served us delicious calamari and lots of village red wine. Two other places in the locality well worth a visit were Lizas' Cafe and Argaka village tavern, no menu at either but the meze and hospitality were great. You definately need to hire a car during your stay but that is the price you pay for staying in the peace and beauty of uncommercialised Cyprus, if you do venture further afield try Coral Oasis in Coral Bay and Seagull in Paphos both worth a visit for food. Every room was spacious, the beds were very comfortable. Zacharius and Andreos made us very welcome without being obtrusive. I am partially disabled and found the access here was better than any top class hotel. There were ramps everywhere, a large wheelchair accessible shower downstairs, the pool had large roman steps with a hand rail and the ground floor bedroom led straight onto the terrace. The local people were just as friendly and I would thoroughly recommend eating at Lisa's place, just a 15 minute drive away. There was no menu and they brought whatever they had in a meze. It was delicious, nothing was a problem. This was the first holiday that my children had'nt wanted to come home. I booked to try the Marilena 2 next year and am certain it will be just as enjoyable. My partner (Ekaterina) and I arranged everything last minute (to save on cost) We wanted 14 nights to relax and see the real Cyprus at our own pace. We also want simple but clean accommodation and a pleasant and quiet environment. Zacharias, Demetra, Tim (our Taxi driver, tour guide and friend) oh, and not forgetting the Papadopoulos youngsters all went out of their way to ensure that we had one of the best holidays by far. They arranged transport from Larnaca airport (at a reasonable cost); car hire; provided an excellent apartment with the modcons one would need (there was even a bottle of wine waiting for us on arrival - free!). This could've been a normal holiday, instead all concerned made it their business (in a relaxed and professional manner) to ensure that our every need was catered for. We (Ekaterina and I) found The Astrofegia a fantastic base for the exploration of the rest of Cyprus a task we managed do, blissfully, in 14 days...
Needless to say, like all the others that have written here - we will be returning. The only negatives I can find are that it all had to end. If you're still in any doubt give Zacharias a call and queries you have will be dealt with professionally and efficiently - that was our experience! Once again thank you. Nothing was to much trouble and "the get away from it all" feeling was always with you. The villa is new and built to an exceptional high standard. Like others there, we found a warm welcome from the Papadopoulos family, the apartment was excellent, and we enjoyed our stay. As a touring base for the Paphos region, and for the Troodos mountains, it is very well located and the coastline there is lovely. We would stay there again! The warm welcome we enjoyed from Zacharias and Demetra, and their children was an extra upon the excellent apartment with its good facilities. For anyone who wants a relaxing holiday in Cyprus outside the Tourist Area, we highly recommend Astrofegia. However a 4-wheel driven car is needed to visit Cyprus and it's beautifull mountain area. To say we loved the island, and the apartments, is an understatement - we returned for a further week in September! The apartments are incredibly clean and extremely well equipped, and provided a great base for our time in Cyprus. The village is very peaceful and provided the ideal spot for 'chill out' time - with larger towns and great beaches within a 12k radius. Needless to say the hospitality extended by Zacharius and his family on both our visits was warm, welcoming and sincere, as was the local community. After booking cheap flights from Glasgow and finding the apartments on the internet - we will never book a package deal again. I spent two nights in the studio apartment this past July and was very pleased with the facilities and location of the apartments. The staff are always available to assist and do so with enthusiasm and a smile. I would recommend a stay at Astrofegia if you are looking for a quiet location close to the water and away from the more "touristy" areas. It is a great place to get away and relax with lovely views of the beautiful blue water on one side and the mountains on the other.
